There is Nothing Like a Dame
The Thame Players pantomime sells out every year and Camelot – the Panto this year is likely to be no exception. Indeed, all over the country pantomimes are extremely popular. But how did pantomime originate? And how did the pantomime dame become a central character and vital part of the show? For some years Tony Long has been telling the story of the pantomime dame to groups such as the Historical Society, Women’s Institutes and many others. Having played every pantomime dame at Thame Players since 1984, he is uniquely qualified to tell the story. His fully illustrated talk takes us from Comedia del Arte in the 16th century to the present day.
