An Evening with Film Director and Former SAS Commander, Tom Petch
Forget the SAS you thought you knew. Discover its incredible origins as told by a man who was part of it for eight years, with access to records and reports previously unavailable.
Join us at the theatre or via live stream to hear Tom Petch talk about his latest book, Speed. Aggression. Surprise. The Untold Secret Origins of the SAS. In it he reveals how the SAS came into existence and much more. The SAS is the most legendary special forces unit in the world and the most secretive. Its origins as a revolutionary new kind of warfare which still shapes how the West fights today stretch back to the First World War.
Tom Petch served for eight years in the British Army, becoming Troop Commander of 22 SAS. His military experience gives him a unique perspective on recently declassified archives, operation reports, accounts and interviews with the original SAS and their commanders. He is now an award-winning film director and producer, whose debut film, The Patrol, won the Raindance Film Festival. He is also the great-great-grandson of Samuel Shepheard, who founded Shepheard’s Hotel Cairo where the SAS was born, a key location within the book.
