Thame Players Theatre Company

Thame Players Theatre Company is a vibrant and successful theatre group with over 150 members, founded over 70 years ago. Thame Players own and run the only dedicated theatre in Thame and offer a wide range of quality entertainment, from serious theatre to comedy and pantomime, including our own in-house productions as well as visiting acts and regular film screenings hosted by Thame Cinema for All.

Thame Players Theatre Company is a registered charity and the theatre is run entirely by volunteers, yet makes a significant contribution to the cultural life of the local community.

“ The variety and quality of events staged by Thame Players means that we can enjoy excellent entertainment in our local town with the added bonus of being part of an audience of fellow locals.

The Players Theatre is part of the local community, it brings people together from Thame and the villages and provides much needed live entertainment.” John & Kathryn Lock, Shabbington, Bucks

We run five Thame Players productions  a year, more than any other non-professional group in the area. We also run a thriving Murder Mystery group which you can hire for corporate and community events, or for private occasions.

Thame Players vary their repertoire whilst continuing to improve standards of acting and presentation. In addition to the superb annual pantomime (written in-house) which sells out to family audiences, they regularly provide theatrical fare more typical of professional suburban theatre than of amateurs. The Winslow Boy, The Deep Blue Sea by Rattigan, Dancing at Lughnasa, a Brian Friel classic, Peter Nicholls’ Born in the Garden and Shelagh Stevenson’s Memory of Water are just some recent brilliant performances I have seen there that show the versatility and artistic innovation of their programme.

Thame Players are quite simply one of the finest amateur theatre companies in the country.” Gwilym Scourfield, Old Marston, Oxford

The ideal location of The Players Theatre – near the High Street and car parking facilities – makes it the theatre venue of choice for people living in Thame and surrounding villages in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The transformation of the former church hall into a comfortable theatre was completed in 2002. The Building A Better Theatre campaign, completed in 2014, saw further improvements made, including a new heating system, larger stage, upgraded lighting facilities, an extra row of seats and a reconfigured balcony with improved sightlines. The theatre now seats 132.  The stage and technical facilities rival those of many professional theatres.

The theatre has facilities for the disabled, including a hearing loop, wheelchair access and a disabled toilet.
